Yes, the width of the tornado must have broke some records. I wonder if that town really can come back. I found Bush's comment distastful ( as ususal) When he said that the town would come back soon becuase of the "midwesterner work ethic" I heard "white" in place of midwesterner and "unlike the lazy blacks in New Orleans" for the whole statement. Maybe he's making me crazy and I'm reading too much into his inane statements. The "Haiti" clip is so true. Too bad the Onion had to pick Haiti as the setting - right down there with Darfur as the saddest places on earth.

I heard the exact same thing when Bush said that.

And then on the Water Cooler there were republicans talking about how the folks in Kansas weren't sitting around waiting for "government handouts" because Kansas has a different "culture" than New Orleans.

(Ignoring the fact that there are 1.4 million people in New Orleans and 1500 people in Greensburg, and ignoring that rescue workers could drive on into Greensburg 5 minutes after the tornado left)

I responded that I would try to remember this the next time I hear a republican complaining about how few blacks support the GOP -- because clearly the GOP is more concerned about getting votes from racists than from blacks, and blacks know it.

Well, the racists got their wish - there is now less than 500,000 people in New Orleans; some say much less. Since I am Republican, I do not like being lumped in with racists, okay? Well I guess that's not fair. You said that Repubicans court racists, not that we are racist. Is there a difference?

Obviously not all republicans are racist - very few of them are.

But if you don't want to be associated with racists, you shouldn't be a republican. Well, come to think of it, there are all sorts of reasons not to be a republican... this is just one of many. =)
